When starting a new internship, I usually expect to meet my new boss, get comfortable in a new office and familiarize myself with a new project at a nice, easy pace. This summer, all of my expectations were thrown out the window the minute I jumped in a bright red truck.
My name is Kristen Lowe and I just started as the Producers Hybrids Marketing Intern. I’ve had a whirlwind of a first week, but I’ve been loving every minute of it.
Monday morning, I got a crash-course of all things Producers Hybrids as Shannon Kubik and I made our way to Westfield, Indiana. The next thing I knew, I was sitting in a meeting with the entire LG Seeds Marketing Team. I had gone from the ‘Producers Hybrids’ world to the ‘LG Seeds’ world within a matter of minutes. That’s a whole other whirlwind…
On July 1, 2018, six legacy seed companies (including Producers Hybrids) are uniting into one: the new LG Seeds. This week I had the opportunity to attend meetings preparing legacy brand employees for this change. It was amazing to see everyone come together, don red LG Seeds polos, and show excitement for this chance to set LG Seeds apart from the rest of the industry.
While I only have a week under my belt, it is clear to me that the challenge of building a new seed brand was met head-on. I’m sure the past year has been a whirlwind for not only Producers Hybrids, but for all of the legacy brands. This week amongst all the meetings, travel, and new people, I learned a great lesson from LG Seeds Brand Manager Andy Montgomery, “Managing change is necessary to have growth”.
Change is inevitable, whether it comes in the form of a new internship or a new seed company. While it can feel like a whirlwind at times, change results in experiences we never thought were possible. I can’t wait to see what else this new internship has to offer. I’m ready to #domoretogether, are you?
